Professor Eviatar Matania

Executive Director of the Elrom Center

Professor Eviatar Matania is a Full Professor at the School of Political Science, Government and International Affairs at Tel Aviv University and Head of the Elrom Center for Air and Space Studies. He also serves as Head of the Master’s Program in Security Studies and Head of the Master’s Program in Cyber Politics and Government at Tel Aviv University.

Professor Matania is a leading expert in national security strategy, the intersection of security and advanced technologies, and technology policy. He is the founder and former Head of the Israel National Cyber Bureau (2012–2018), where he led the development and implementation of Israel’s national cyber strategy and established the institutional foundations of Israel’s cyber defense ecosystem. The bureau later evolved into the Israel National Cyber Directorate.

Between 2018 and 2020, together with Prof. Isaac Ben-Israel, he led Israel’s National Initiative for Intelligent Systems (Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing), which formulated a comprehensive national strategy designed to strengthen Israel’s scientific, technological, and strategic resilience in the era of artificial intelligence.

Professor Matania holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics (cum laude) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an M.Sc. in Pure Mathematics (cum laude) from Tel Aviv University, specializing in game theory, and a Ph.D. in Judgment and Decision Making (Psychology) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
